Check Your Disaster Assistance Status With FEMA

COLUMBIA, MO. – Individuals who have registered for disaster assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency can check their registration status by phone or online.

Survivors of the recent severe storms, flooding and tornadoes that struck Missouri between April 19 and June 6, 2011, who have not yet registered with FEMA are urged to do so before the Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, deadline.

To check an existing registration status, applicants may call FEMA’s toll-free Helpline, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Applicants should be able to provide their Social Security number or their FEMA registration number before calling the Helpline.

Applicants may also check their registration status online at by clicking the “Check Your Application Status” icon and following the prompts to create a user ID. Once a user ID has been created, the applicant may log in to the site at any time to see any disaster assistance updates.

Disaster survivors who have not yet registered for assistance can register online at, by smartphone at, or by calling the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). If the applicant has access or functional needs and uses a TTY, call 1-800-462-7585 directly; if the applicant uses 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS), call 1-800-621-3362. Multilanguage assistance also is available. Telephone registration is available daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., until further notice.

The Aug. 26, 2011, registration deadline applies to disaster survivors living in the following counties designated for Individual Assistance under the presidential disaster declaration: Bollinger, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Dunklin, Howell, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald, Mississippi, New Madrid, Newton, Pemiscot, Pettis, Phelps, Pulaski, Reynolds, Ripley, Saint Francois, Saint Louis, Scott, Stoddard, Stone, Taney and Wayne.

Assistance may include FEMA grants for temporary housing and home repairs and low-interest U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loans to cover losses not fully compensated by insurance. SBA disaster loans help homeowners, renters, business owners and nonprofit organizations recover from the effects of the disaster

To date, Missouri survivors have qualified for more than $33.6 million in FEMA aid and more than $42.7 million in SBA loans.
